subprime black deadbeats?
Cinnamon, an African American mom, has lost everything in the subprime mortgage crunch and she is very angry to hear that President Bush thinks it's all her fault and that of all black deadbeats like her.
"Banks, developers, and others were driven by government policy to build up a massive housing market which necessitated encouraging low income citizens, mainly African Americans like me, to buy homes they could not afford," says Cinnamon. "They all knew what they were doing -- that most of these houses would be repossessed -- and they didn't care."
"These guys posed as respectable 'trust us' citizens," says Cinnamon. "We trusted them but the tactics they used were fraudulent and predatory. They deliberately sucked in low income black people, stole the little money we had and used it to leverage their bigger deals."
"Yes, they targeted black people," says Cinnamon. "They deliberately targeted us, stole our money and didn't care that we'd lose our homes and be subjected to terrible traumas -- marital troubles, upset children and financial ruin."
"There were far worse lending scams out there -- all aimed at low income black people -- and we did better than most."
"So, the scheme collapsed -- as everyone in the know KNEW it would -- but not until those orchestrating it had made their millions," sighs Cinnamon. "And now President Bush offloads responsibility for his government's approval of fiscal fraud by blaming poor African Americans for buying houses they couldn't afford (or were too dumb to read the fine print)."
"Well, thanks a heap Mr President, you know you don't have time much left in office and have nothing to lose by antagonizing voters and stirring up racial hatred," adds Cinnamon. "You and your corporate thug backers set up these financial schemes and profited by them while playing murderous war games in Iraq, so I have every right to blame you for my marital breakup and my kids having to suffer the double trauma of a broken home and no home to call their own any more."
